How do you test the network speed between computers connected to a switch?

How do you test the network speed between computers connected to a switch?

Is testing the Internet speed the same thing?

Hi
Here Real time test tools, it is provided in CompTIA Network+ certification, easy to use just set IPs in both ends and choose the size of the file want to send it from Host-A to Host-B via switch, called NetStress bellow the URL:

http://nutsaboutnets.com/netstress/

NetStress includes the following features:

- single instance of the application (i.e. each instance can be used as server or server plus client)
- supports both TCP and UDP data transfers
- supports multiple data streams
- variable TCP / UDP segment size
- rate of packet transmission (Packets Per Second)
- variable Maximum Transmission Unit (MTU)
- uplink and downlink modes
- auto node discovery
- choice of display units (KBps, Kbps, MBps, Mbps)
- support for multiple network adapters

What I am trying to accomplish is to figure out why our Database on one computer runs 3 times slower than the others.

Thanks, I will look into your posts.
I am not sure slow in network or the PC resources (RAM, CPU .... etc).
In the network, speed and Duplex could be different for one PC to the other, meaning 1Gbps Full duplex twice 1Gbps Half Duplex, and type of media (CAT6 shielded or UTP), plus the distance.  the switch ports configured and FULL or Half duplex too. Full Duplex needs Cross over cable.

I like Dumeter, but cannot figure out how to test the speed between two computers?
Download iperf

https://iperf.fr/iperf-download.php

You set up one node as server ,the other as workstation using the utilities.

Then run the test.
It should tell you the speed between the two nodes.

NEVER ,EVER run gigE at manual duplex speeds.
It's auto or nothing.
Put the two computers on the same switch and monitor the traffic on One computer while it is talking to the other.

You may also need a packet sniffer to see what is going on.
Thank you
You are very welcome and I was happy to help.
