I have 4 Windows 7 laptops with SP1 that need to be updated to the latest versions of Windows 7 is there a service pack that will bring them right up to date or do I have to suffer  the huge list of updates that always seem to end up "restore back to previous version"

Is there a service pack? No.
Huge list of updates.. Why? Did you turn updates OFF?

1. Turn on Automatic Updates and let run overnight. Updates may restart.

2. If way behind, run WSUS Offline Updater for Windows 7

I have used this and it works.

There is no SP for Windows 7 anymore.
To avoid the problem with “restoring back” try to install the updates one by one or at least in small portions. This will let you narrow to the update which causes the problem.

it can help also to update the bios, chipset, viedeo and other drivers

I know that to stop getting "reverting changes" you have to slowly go down the list a few at a time to eventually get a result, but this is what I am trying to avoid as I have 4 laptops to do and it takes forever.

If auto updates were turned off for a long time you either have do to the updates in groups or try WSUS Offline.

just loaded the updates in groups of six - so there is no quick way

Thank you all for your responses, but it seems there is no fast way to get a Win7 machine uptodate
You have to load the updates a few at a time.
