Hi All

Does anyone know who in the UK sells pre loaded 4g data sims that do not require a contract and not restricted to being used within 30 days?

You need to ask your ISP.

I have a HUAWEI E8372 4G USB card. The SIM does not require a contract from my ISP (North America) and has a very low standby charge. I can cancel in 30 days.

Is your phone unlocked?
How much data do you want to use
You can buy SIMs over the counter but they will need activation and then to continue to use will need you to top up using a payment card.
Most providers want either a UK registered card or a prepaid debit card or "top up card" which you can pay cash for in local stores.

The top four mainstream cell providers in the UK are EE, Vodafone, O2 and Three in cities there's not much to choose between them, in the countryside there can be big differences in best provider signal so if you are heading a long way out of town (and for Brits that means more than 100 miles!) worth checking coverage maps online to see who covers where you are going best.

I noticed in the Arrivals lounge last time flying in that you can get them from vending machines while you are waiting for your baggage.

Thank you for the feedback!......

I do apologise what I meant with regards to 30 days is if I buy 4gb of data from all the providers I have come across I either have to be in a rolling SIM contract or the data expires after 30 days it would be most useful if I could buy say 4gb of data and use it ad-hoc over several months.

With most UK PAYG (Pay As You Go) packages they'll nag you  after around 3 months of inactivity but your credit will be safe, unfortunately all of the provider notifications are by SMS and email at teh same time so you'll need to put the SIM back in to check once in a while (and if you're then out of UK get stung for roaming charges off your credit), eventually providers will deactivate - then you lose your credit - so they can reuse the number.  So simply making one call will keep your SIM live.

Thank you for the advice, I have a few sims I will try a low value on and test the suggestion you advised MASQ.

I have discovered that GiffGaff have a data Sim which is valid for 3 months and think there might be others that have a validity of 6 months which may be good too, they do not tend to be competitively priced but sometimes it's convenience that's needed.

Thanks for the update

GiffGaff piggybacks free space on the O2 network so check their UK coverage meets what you need

Unless you're heading up a mountain or deep into some of the national parks you'll generally be OK with them :)
