Remote App slow pushing data

Hi Team,
Need your help!
Windows RDS on Server 2016.    Standalone executable application on the server to push out as a remote application to clients in a branch office. Trying to avoid using a remote desktop.

The clients scan documents in from their location (branch) and save on server.  They then go inside the remote application and attach those scans to client records in the application.
In essence, the data is going from local scanner across the vpn to the server, back across the vpn to the local pc, then back across the vpn into the application.  As you can guess, it's just this side of watching grass grow.

I'm sure I should know the answer, but I don't, and I bet you do.  Surely there's a way to keep that data on the server side and not have it traverse 3 times for every interaction.

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I think you've misunderstood a few things, which totally changes the nature of your question.

RemoteApp is Remote Desktop.  Instead of transmitting the entire windows shell over the wire, it sends the GUI portions of the app itself.

So when you say "Standalone executable application on the server to push out as a remote application to clients in a branch office."
Nope, RemoteApp is not pushing an app out to the client.

"Trying to avoid using a remote desktop."
You are.

"The clients scan documents in from their location (branch) and save on server.  They then go inside the remote application and attach those scans to client records in the application."
In this workflow, the scan is going over the VPN once, not three times. From being scanned to being saved on the server.  That's it.  Once on the server, the remoteapp is accessing it on the server, not transmitting it back across to the client.  There is no second/third trip.

Agree. Although I guess you wanted to write:
"Trying to avoid using a remote desktop."
You are not (avoiding rdp usage).
