Are docking stations dead?

Need some insight on the latest docking stations.  I come from a long history of Latitude E series laptops with effortless docking with a serial connection base of the laptop.   All new adaptation of this concept appear to be a bit more cumbersome.  Does anyone have some insight on whether there are still adequate options or what I should hold out for in the future or am I just being nostalgic?

Docking stations are not dead, but reducing in importance as machines become thinner, smaller, wireless only, and high speed USB.

So we see USB adapters that allow additional Display devices if necessary, wired LAN if necessary and external keyboard if necessary.

We see people just using laptops just they way they are with high resolution displays, Bluetooth mice and good keyboards right on the laptop.

So still used, but not as much.

dead as in legacy ways of connectivity...  what if I want a laptop that does not require USB connectivity for establishing use with an external monitor, keybd, and mouse?
Then in the case above, you do not need a dock.  I do not use them.
But I love the dropping my laptop into a dock and pressing power.  One and done.   What PC manufacture does that still?
Lenovo still does this, either by dropping in (we have these at clients) or plugging in a USB dock (as fast).
Can you tell me what the laptop and docks models that your clients are most satisfied with?

Also some Lenovo laptops no longer have the big socket on the bottom, so USB for these, or as noted, not even use an external dock.

Use will always be governed by special needs.
welp, I found a pretty cool dock for a variety of display outputs.  I just need a highly regarded 15" laptop that does not have Intel integrated video card.
No such beast for a modern laptop. All (non huge) laptops have integrated video so monitors would be add on
no nvidia upgrade?
Laptops are getting thinner, lighter, and users need longer battery life ( much more important) so manufacturers are not providing replaceable video. Even sockets are being eliminated (soldered in CPU, GPU) to save space and use devices that do not use much battery
There may be a low volume special purpose laptop that will work for you. But volume laptops and the trend (your question) are moving in the opposite direction

Most of the ones on the list above are 16 or 17 inch laptops. For me, that fits within the special purpose category. Still you may wish a big one like this to change the GPU chip.
I ordered a 14" Lenovo T480 with Nvidia plus side dock. Thanks for your help!
Thanks for the update and I was happy to work with you.
