Export PKCS #10 from Windows Server 2008 - Wildcard Certificate
Hi,
Will someone help me understand how to export a PKCS #10 certificate from a Windows 2008 server? I see an option for PKCS #12 but that is it. Is this even possible? I am using a wildcard certificate issued by Thawte and I need to get one installed on may VPN device. Any advice or guidance?
Thank you.

Go to MMC (Management Console), File, Add Snap in, and Certificates. Look for your certificate and see if you can export it.

Hi John, thanks for your quick reply. I can export it but the only option I have is PKCS #12. I need #10 for my VPN device. I'm not sure this is even possible from Windows Server 2008 - which is why I'm here.

it sounds like you are not trying to export the right thing. pkcs #10 is a request for a cert, not a cert itself. #10 is the format used for a request only. #12 is the format used for a certificate. Are you trying to export a request to send to a certification authority or are you wanting to export a certificate? Have you created the request already on your server?
If you cannot locate the certificate request file you need to reissue the certificate. This will invalidate the certificate and you will need to install it again everywhere it is required.
Is the certificate marked as exportable?

Ok, instead of continuing down the path of delegating this task I went ahead and logged in and took a look at it myself. The piece of hardware needed some patches applied to it. Once I did that the steps John provided me worked perfectly, exporting and importing the PKCS #12.
I appreciate all the replies and help attempts.
