Exchange migration
Hi
I'm about to migrate out exchange 2007 server to exchange 2016, and have found Codetwo migrations software, it should to do it, but it require I "Prepare a clean target Exchange environment in a new Active Directory forest"
What does that mean, is it that I have to make a new domaincontroller with a different domain name?
Can anybody explain what I an going to do :-)

Amit is correct. What I'd like to add: since Ex2019 is out soon, you might want to wait for its release and then 2007->2013->2019.
Yes, like Amit said you can't do direct migration.
If you have not too much mailboxes, maybe it's better way to install new Exchange server, export mailboxes from old one, rerout traffic to new server and import mailboxes, then decomition old Exchange.

Hi Amit
Yes I saw that the code Two guidance says "cross forest migration", and that's what I not understood,, what does it mean, what do I have to do to make a "cross forest migration"?
Or basically do I have to do it from 2007 to 2010 first, or can I go from 2007 to 2013, before I go to 2016?

Cross forest migration is mean you must migrate Exchange Mailboxes from One Forest to Another.
Bottom line is if you have Company1 forest with DC1 domain controller and Exchange1 server cross forest migration is migrating to Company2 forest DC2 domain controller and Exchange2
You can't use this script/manual to migrate inside same Forest from Exchange1 to Exchange2
I think if you can't create new Forest in your organization and move all computers to new Forest/domain best solution for you is Install new Exchange Server , install all mailboxes, modify internal DNS to make people connection to new Exchange.
On old exchange set new internal sent connector and forward all emails to new Exchange, then you have a time to slowly export all mailboxes from Old Exchange to pst file then Import them to new Exchange using PS script or manually
