PowerEdge R610 using PERC 6/i Integrated (Embedded) controller - Foreign disk
We have a PowerEdge R610 using PERC 6/i Integrated (Embedded) controller. There is a RAID 1 and a RAID 5 (3 disk). One of the disks failed on the RAID 5, So we purchased additional 300GB disks (1 to replace the defunct, the second to introduce as a hot spare).
The first disk was added successfully into the RAID 5 array. The second disk was inserted, and after trying to add it as a global hot spare, the status changed to 'foreign'. I have been unable to change the status from 'foreign'.
I have attached some screenshots to assist.
Can anyone assist with this please?
Thanks

You are nearly there, you will find "clear foreign config" on the next page. The disk is second hand and the old metadata is still on it so the controller thinks it is part of another array, clearing the config will allow you to re-use it. You may also have to set it as a hot spare before it rebuilds onto it.

Thanks for coming back to me. For the life of me, I cannot see the "clear foreign config" option. Can you confirm which page I will find it? Thanks

At last, I found the option. To help others who have the same problem, this is how I located it.
I went to Storage>PERC 6/i Integrated. Selected selected Information/Configuration at the top of the page. Scroll down to Controller Tasks, then select Foreign Configuration Operations, then select Execute. At this point, be a little more patient than I was as the next page may take longer than you would expect to open. Once it does open, you will be presented with a number of options that will help you to progress. In our case, we needed to select Clear. I have included a couple of screenshots that I hope will assist.
