Keep Windows from changing Reservation Name

It is a SBS-2011 Server. I will create a new DHCP reservation and set the reservation name to "GSMPC-11 N". Then it looks like when it goes active Windows changes the name to the computername.domain i.e. gsmpc-11.gsmetalinc.com

Well..... what is the point in even creating a reservation name when Windows changes it to computername.domain automatically? Is there any way to stop it from changing the reservation name?

The reservation name in DHCP has nothing to do with the computer name.  This is just a tag for the Admin.  The MAC address it the important part of the DHCP reservation.  If you are looking to change the visible name to all user you want to use DNS to create a new A-Record or use CNAME to point to the machine real name.

I am going to have to disagree. I created the reservation as "GSMPC-11 N". Windows changed it to gsmpc-11.gsmetalinc.com. So maybe it doesn't have anything to do with the computer name (but I believe it does) but is chopped off the " N" and appended gsmetalinc.com (which is the domain name). So one way or the other Windows is changing the reservation name from when I originally set it.

Take a look at the attached screen shot. About half the reservations are like I set them "GSMPC-24 W" but as the got active Windows is changing them..... (the Reservation Name)

You are correct.  I am sorry I misspoke.
Try keeping the Windows computer name to 15 characters or less. We do that anyway and have no issues with any DHCP reservations we make

See below for some verification of this

@yo_bee that link looks like the exact issue. No fix?

@John the computer names are way shorter than 15 characters... GSMPC-02, GSMPC-15, etc.
They looked longer in your screen capture.

Make sure there a no duplicates (even among unused names) - we had this issue once.

Make sure your DHCP Scope is big enough for all reservations to be in the scope with all non-reserved computers.

@John the reason they look longer in the screen shot is because Windows is prefixing them with an IP address and suffixing them with the domain name.

That is a huge, huge mistake by Microsoft (among others). I can see why maybe others use a third party DHCP server.....
I am assuming this is by design and you will need to use the Description field to accomplish your desired goal.
I caught that from the link. The only problem is changing the view to display the description. Can't seem to do it. The description is important. Tells you what the reservation is for but if you can't see the description in the view it is about as useless ans the reservation name (which could also reference what it is for). Amazing. Something so simple that M$ screws up so completely.
