Some mailboxes Disconnect randomly after migration from Exchange 2010 to 2016

Hi Guys,

I migrated about 50 Mailbox’s from exchange 2010 to exchange 2016, after the install I am having problems with about 4 mailboxes.

When opening the mailboxes in cached mode it may open fine the first time, but if you close and re-open you will get a mailbox disconnected message. After roughly 10 minutes it will connect again but may disconnect randomly after 5 or 10 minutes. Sometimes it may not disconnect for hours.

If you do the same thing in non-cached mode it will usually load up the first time but if you close and re-open it will show the message:
“Cannot open you default e-mail folders. Microsoft exchange is not available. Either there are network problem or the Exchange server is down for maintenance”
After about 10 minutes it will reconnect again.

I noticed that if I restart IIS this will allow you to reconnect to the mailbox immediately after, so it kind of bypasses the problem for a short amount of time.

I then noticed I didn’t need to restart IIS if I recycled the MSExchangeMapiMailboxAppPool this would also allow me to connect to the mailbox immediately after.
Most of the clients are outlook 2010 but I tried it on outlook 2013 with the same issues.

The mailboxes that this is happening to have a common theme:
All have quite a few folders in there inbox 20 -30
All have many shared mailboxes 15 – 20

It seems that the user is hitting some limit somewhere and IIS is blocking them.
I set the same mailbox up on 2 different computers and they both connect and reconnect at the same time. So somehow the mailbox itself is becoming unavailable.
Checked Event Viewer no error or anything that stands out in there.
Checked IIS logs can’t see anything that’s stands out, but I confess I don’t know what I’m looking for in these.

Exchange 2010 is now completely decommissioned.

Turned caching off for shared folders in outlook.

Things tried so far:
Increasing mapi limits
https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/mt741981(v=exchg.150).aspx

Checking folder limits are below 500. Ran support and recovery assistant on outlook:
https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/2768656/outlook-performance-issues-when-there-are-too-many-items-or-folders-in

Checked all the certs are setup correct.

New-MailboxRepairRequest in detect mode on these mailboxes, comes up clean.

Bounce the Autodiscover Application

Server Setup:
Virtual machine
Server 2016 Standard
Exchange 2016 CU10
4 Disk Raid 5 15k SAS
8 Virtual processors.
24 G Ram

Processor sits at around 2 – 4% most of the time
Memory Sits at 55%
Disk activity low too.

If you guys could suggest any log files or any events I could search for that relate to this error would be a great help.
