Windows 10 and scanner access
In past versions of windows you were able to access the scanner and save that scan to any directory that you have.. In windows 10 the only way to access the scanner is through windows scan and fax which does not let you save the output of the scanner but only allows you you to use the scan in a fax or email. I am using a Cannon MP 5400 iss there any way to do a scan.?

Thanks all especially Joe who wrote such a detailed response. The problem is not that I can't access the scanner at all, as joe pointed out my use of jargon is not very good.
I successfully use Photoshop to do my scanning but I was looking for a simple. 1 shot app for occasional use. Cannon used to have a simple desktop app that did that but it is no longer offered on their web site. I don't understand why Photoshop can bring up a window with the proper app but the app cannot be used stand alone .
Thanks anyway

The old Canon app may be simpler than Irfanview, but it's not much more complicated. And it does a lot of other things very well, too.
Give it a try and see what you think. It's a free download
Here's a screenshot of the scan window for my Fuji Xerox CM305DF. For your scanner the reference to a Document Feeder will not be there.

for a single scan, i use paint ( find it start>accessories>Paint)
then select import from scanner or camera
it lets you select the folder you want

Thanks again Joe and Hdhondt for the detailed reply 😀

Yes, IrfanView is one of those apps than cannot hide the TWAIN or WIA dialog. But there are many apps that can, as I mentioned previously. I have Foxit Reader, PaperPort, Power PDF Advanced, and other scanning/imaging apps configured for one-click scanning — the ISIS/TWAIN/WIA dialogs never appear. Regards, Joe

try paint (you can make a shortcut to it on your desktop
Did you install the Full Canon Package? If so, then as hdhondt suggests: Replace the printer.
