outlook 2010

there is a user who's stand alone machine was considerably slow and sluggish yesterday . he had problem in opening each and every email and then it got hung.

his outlook with safe mode was also working slow. I checked his cpu and memory it was almost nothing,

network team reviewed today.  they said Everything does appear to be working well this morning.  what  networking team found and giving conclusion   that it was user 'sfirst day back after being on vacation for almost two weeks.  As a result of this he probably had to pull down his O365 profile again and it slowed the performance of his pc significantly.

my question is : since I was troubleshooting yesterday I saw his outlook folders  completed updating , and the user experienced the issue whole day yesterday

I need your opinion that profile update could happen in few minutes and how it will keep on updating whole day ? ost update will happen once and then his outlook should behave normally? isn't it.

users pulls is outlook through cache mode from his ost file .

How is the performance today? For same user. What do you mean by stand alone machine. Is that a user own system or company PC. Next question is user connected to office network or home network.

OST get downloaded once when user opens outlook how it will affect whole day?
What is the mailbox size for this user. As you said, user was out for 2 weeks, in that case, there could be lot of mails, which need to be updated into OST. Network can also cause such delay. Like any downloading limit set for users. In my office, if i try to access internet site, it take long time to open, though i have 100 MBPS line.

but when I opened his outlook yesterday I saw all folders upto date so u mean to say whole day ost was getting updated?
As i said, it depends on mailbox size and item counts. There are lot of factors, which can contribute to such issue. You need to focus on other things also, like network speed, any error in client event logs. Which can help you to find, what is going on. Here what i suggest, try to mimic same issue with a test user. And see how it works. When you open mailbox after 2 weeks.

u mean client event logs in event viewer ? didn't see anything abnormal,

all I know when I was checking his outlook, all folders were updated already , cant buy the solution from other team that his ost was getting updated whole day ?
Hi

Did you not have a network bottleneck or server not responding yesterday which can affect outlook? What about backups running during working hours?

no there was no bottleneck anywhere, if u full the ost it should happen once  and not that the outlook be affected whole day and today morning all of a sudden everything is working ok
There are a number of things at play here. For example, is the user using Cached Exchange mode? How much mail is in the user's mailbox? When it gets large enough, you will start to see a number of issues. I remember I dealt with a user who had a mailbox that was something crazy like 30 GB.
