DFS not syncing after reinstall

Hi and TIA,

HQ - Server 2016 Standard, fully patched.
Camp 2 - Server 2016 Standard, fully patched

HQ server is syncing a different folder, same namespace with a server at Camp 1.

Servers from Camp 1 and 2 were off line for months. Brought Camp 1 on line, would not sync AD or DFS. Removed DFS, AD and demoted server. reinstalled AD, promoted and DFS. The server works fine.

Brought up Camp 2 server, went through the same process as Camp 1. Ad syncs fine, DS will not sync.

The only thing that has been done differently is the server at Camp 1 had its name changed before being re-promoted, Camp 2 did not.

any thoughts?

When you brought things back up, did you clear out the old entries in AD for those two servers?  My guess is either old AD or DNS entries causing your issues.

Ivan has a great write up on this:

That may be the cause, I did remove all remnants for camp 1 but not 2. Was trying a shortcut.

I will give it a go.
Gareth McKeeCEO/OwnerAuthor Commented:

so, I removed DFS and AD and demoted.

removed from domain and removed details of server in AD.

Renamed the server

re-added AD and promoted to dc

re-added DFS - topology tests say all is good.

still not syncing.

I have changed the time format on server to be the same as other server just in case. The servers are in different time zones, time is out by 2 minutes.

Only Error in event viewer is Source CAPI2 Event ID 513

I have Run DFS Replication Health Report, shows that camp 2 server's DFSR service is restarting frequently. 10 times in last 7 days.

Gareth McKeeCEO/OwnerAuthor Commented:
Completely removed the folder in the name space and removed both servers from connection.

re-adding at this point still did not work, DFS log complains of both servers being 'stale' ie no sync over 60 days.

removed everything again.

copied source folder camp2 and renamed copy camp2_b, also created a folder on Camp2 server call camp2_b.

recreated namespace folder and now syncing fine.
