Asp.net mvc & asp.net core 2

Hello Experts,
I have been using asp.net for the past several years. I don’t know asp.net mvc or asp.net mvc core or asp.net core 2. Should I start asp.net mvc first before I start learning asp.net core 2? I am very confused.

How was your transition from asp.net classic to core 2?
In progress still, it's a fairly fundamental shift in thinking but still is basically the same thing just organised a little bit differently but I am persevering.
Thank you Very much Paul for your comments above. I have been holding off on MVC for awhile. Any links is appreciated. Wish me luck.
