Asp.net mvc & asp.net core 2

Hello Experts,
I have been using asp.net for the past several years. I don’t know asp.net mvc or asp.net mvc core or asp.net core 2. Should I start asp.net mvc first before I start learning asp.net core 2? I am very confused.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

I had the same issue and decided it would be best to start with MVC 5.0 first to get a grounding in MVC and because most companies out there will still be developing in MVC 4/5. I then moved on to MVC Core with razor pages, and then MVC Core 2.0.

A good place to start for me was :

How was your transition from asp.net classic to core 2?

In progress still, it's a fairly fundamental shift in thinking but still is basically the same thing just organised a little bit differently but I am persevering.

Thank you Very much Paul for your comments above. I have been holding off on MVC for awhile. Any links is appreciated. Wish me luck.
