search my files with "type here to search"

using the bottom left search box I am unable to find any of my documents because results are what others (not me) have searched for on bing

I am forced to open folders.

Search box is unusable.

I did see options where I can search "my documents" for my files.
But what if my files are in downloads folder.
I want to search only my pc.

In order not to Over Index (slows things down), make sure you have Users as part of your Index Locations (Control Panel, Index Options). If you change this, rebuild your index.

Now when you click on search, narrow to Documents (not Apps or Web).

but documents is
"my documents" folder
I may be looking for pictures
or videos in my videos folder

Try without narrowing to Documents .

Also try the search from Windows Explorer top right located to Users or whatever folder in users

That is what I was pointing to above, but if it does not work for the author, then I use Explorer as that works as well.

this is what I currently do because the search box searches bing

If you upgrade to 1803 (you should) then there are three yabs" above the search results to on look at apps, local documents, or web results

where

also c: has documents, pictures, downloads, entire windows operating system
d: storage

Using file explorer I need to remember to search for all locations
takes a long time because I need to click on every area

Windows Explorer is not Bing. Search as Shown

yes I am forced to use windows explorer.
Bing is bottom left taskbar search box

microsoft is forcing me to use bing when I just want to search my files

If you use the top right Search. Bing will not enter into it

In Windows Explorer, the top right search bar is NOT Bing. It does not take you to Bing. It is just Windows searching the folder you have navigated to in Windows Explorer

As per my screen shot above.

If you use the Windows Search, you must select what you want (Web, Photos, Documents). Web will use Bing, Documents will use Windows Explorer Search. You can get whatever you want this way. Please see below. Your view may be different (with the same things) in earlier versions of Windows 10.
