Webcam use: Microsoft LifeCam HD 3000

I have used this webcam before and it worked fine. The program, application, or website, turned the camera on. It's a Windows 7 desktop. When inserted in the front USB port it recognizes the device.

How to turn the camera on manually.
Maybe I wish to take a photo of something and save the image as a file.
The latest failure was trying to get photo of myself for travel via Airbnb. Their program gave a window to allow the camera but it never came on. Microsoft LifeCam HD 3000.

See if it comes on for Skype.  I have one of these on my Lenovo Desktop and Skype turns it on fine. Try that.

I saw that for Windows 8 and / or 10. I was hoping that was not correct for W7.
I expected the webcam I bought to work on Yahoo Messenger, etc.
Microsoft trick I guess. Maybe I needed a Logitech.
My HD3000 works fine on Windows 10 and the HD5000 that I kept from that Windows 7 box also works fine on Windows 10.

You can try a Logitech to see if it works better for you.

Does the 3000 let me use it without Skype? I want to send webcam images to friends and family who do not have Skype.
I have Snagit and that turns the camera ON.

What program are you using to try to turn the Web Cam ON?
Also go to Device Manager , Imaging Devices, and find the web cam.  Right click on it and Update Driver. See if that helps.

Well now that I think about it the webcam was used without Skype back in December when having to use it to show a photo ID for Coinbase, Today when the software for Airbnb failed to turn it on, I got a message saying photo ID failed.

Curious that this was bought new last Dec. and the driver is dated 2006.
Also, my settings do not allow me to update the driver from the imaging device windows.

I guess the driver could be updated from a Microsoft site.

I am the only user. One user name and password. I can not right click on the camera in devices and get an "open" choice.
A new item bought Dec. 2017 with a 2006 driver = ?

It worked fine with Coinbase but there was an option to begin the photo process.
Airbnb had the same type of prompt but when I clicked on "allow" the camera did not come on.
Something wrong with the Camera?

Find cmd.exe (c:\windows\system32) .  Right click on cmd.exe and select Run as Administrator.  Does Command Open?  If so, your admin ID is likely fine.

Start > search for cmd.exe works fine.
I am not sure what might be wrong with the Web Cam. The HD3000 (generically) works fine.

nobus: I downloaded the 3.6 and it prompted to plug in the camera. Fine but the camera does not turn on.
That other link is for windows 10 and we won't have a Windows 10 desktop until early 2020 when I'll looking for good sources for second hand Windows 10 desktops.

There is a video saying it works with OSB but I have not tried that. I had choices when buying the camera and did not choose Logitech. I wonder if Logitech would require Skype, etc. I doubt it.

There was also a video from 2009 and the kid demonstrating the exact camera we have but his came with a disc and ours did not having been bought in Dec. 2017. Another video that showed OSB also showed the packaging and he got exactly what we got, the camera, warranty card, product guide.
Coinbase "click accept to open webcam" worked. Airbnb "click accept to open the webcam" failed. Neither try had Skype opened.
I'll send Airbnb tech support an inquiry.

When I open LifeCam lower left it says no camera connected. In the help section it gets driver and updates for "no camera detected."
Also it says reboot or try a different USB port.
When the camera is plugged into a rear USB port the blue light on the camera stays on for a few seconds and then goes off.
Many years ago with a Logitech and Yahoo Messenger you just plug it in and it all worked fine for chatting.

i expect it to show up installed in the device manager?
you can also test it on another win7 system

check also these steps :

1. What is the exact and complete error message that you receive on the computer?
2. Did you try connecting the device to other USB ports?
3. Does the Lifecam get detected in device manager?

Method 1:
Run the Microsoft fixit mentioned in the link below.
Hardware devices are not working or are not detected in Windows

Method 2:
You may also follow the steps mentioned in the link below.
Troubleshoot installing Intellipoint, IntelliType, or LifeCam software

Method 3:

Before those steps............

I expect it to show up installed in the device manager?
.................. It does
you can also test it on another win7 system
................. no

1. What is the exact and complete error message that you receive on the computer?
................. I showed that in the last image I posted. "there is no camera connected to the computer", when click on the LifeCam icon you see lower left corner of that image.
2. Did you try connecting the device to other USB ports?
...............yes the other front USB port and all rear ports. When plugged in I hear the typical Windows sound that some hardware has been installed, and the blue light on the webcam does come on but goes off. Then nothing.
3. Does the Lifecam get detected in device manager?
..............yes it is there.

I opened Skype and video chat is there and the camera works. I thought the camera had other uses besides face to face communication. I had to use it to take a photo of myself for photo ID for Coinbase. It worked fine but it was "their" software that was on the screen that turned the camera on.
