Valcom and ShoreTel Director 14.2 - Paging Zones

Hello everyone,
We have a ShoreTel VoIP phone system and we would like to use it to page different zones from the ShoreTel desk sets.
We have a 3 zone Valcom Page Control Unit.
Our paging goal is this:
  1. Page outside only
  2. Page inside only
  3. Page outside and inside at the same time
Is there a solution to accomplish these scenarios?
Do we replace our current Valcom 3 zone paging control unit with a new paging control unit capable of accomplishing the 3 scenarios?
Thanks

I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

A 3-zone unit is what you would need (or larger if you wanted to be able to add more zones in the future)

Which unit do you currently have? .. The V-2003A ?

You will need to create an analog extension / trunk on your VOIP system to connect to it however

kenfcamp - yes, it is a V-2003A.
We currently have:
Zone 1: east wing indoor speakers
Zone 2: west wing indoor speakers
Zone 3: all Outdoor speakers

What we were told was the V-2003A was not able to activate two or three zones at a time.  It could only activate 1 zone at a time.
What we want is the ability to:
  1. Page outside only
  2. Page inside only
  3. Page outside and inside at the same time

Who told you that?.. Surely not Valcom

Sure it will, but the functionality may need to be programmed

Phone Button = Zone
1 = Zone 1
2 = Zone 2
3 = Zone 3
4 = All

Ken,
A company local to our city that we contracted to be install and maintain our ShoreTel system.  We then needed the e911 feature that comes with ShoreTel to work and they set that up for us.  Our last phase is to get speakers installed inside and outside the buildings to be used for general paging and emergency paging.
The company told us that the V-2003A was not smart enough to perform the scenarios I listed and we need to buy their solution that would cost $11,000 and $6000 annual maintenance.  So, I started digging (I'm the only IT on staff and time is precious) and spending time on this project when I was informed of their situation.  To me that just would not make sense that a Valcom controller was that dumb.
To program it is there software?  Do it remote/telnet into the device?

I figured as much, sorry you're dealing with that. My advice (if you're able to), would be to get rid of them as they've made it obvious they're more interested in making money than the needs of you (their customer) .

And yes, it is possible to do both.

No you would connect to it using a standard phone or butt set w/ banjo, connected to the programming port on the Valcom

The valcom would have come with programming documentation. I doubt your service company left them, but that's okay
Valcom's support staff will be more than happy to assist you in making the configuration changes, or getting you a copy of any documentation you may be missing.

Thanks,
I forgot to mention that currently we can page ShoreTel phones alone or page Valcom speakers.  We can't do both and what we'd like to be able to do is when paging inside only and paging all that the ShoreTel phones are included in the page.
Is this scenario doable?

Off hand I would say it "might" be possible, it will depend on your system.

I'm not going to be of much help with that, I'm just not familiar with the particular system you're using.

Sorry :\

"IF" you can include the analog extension to a page group that includes your other extensions then yea, it should be possible.
