I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi rgb192

Foxit PhantomPDF served me well by editing PDF's.

Hi rgb,
You don't need the paid Adobe Acrobat to do that. You can do it with the free Adobe Reader. This five-minute EE video Micro Tutorial shows how:
How to create signatures in the free Adobe Acrobat Reader DC software

Hi Thomas,
Nope...didn't forget that. I took "fill out pdf document with text" to mean that he wants to fill out a PDF form that has fillable fields, which you can do with Adobe Reader. Regards, Joe

Thomas UCommented:
Yes, my experience is that for every PDF you get that has fillable fields, you get 5 that are just pdf documents you need to print and fill out OR use a software to add your text to it. So I assumed he will have the same problem. just to say...

Apart from that, you are right.

> use a software to add your text to it

In those cases, text annotations work well. The free Adobe Reader, free Foxit Reader, and free PDF-XChange Editor all have a text annotation feature. However, if you need to add/change/delete the actual text in a PDF (unusual when filling out a PDF, even if it's not a fillable form), then you'll need a product that can edit the text in a PDF, which none of the three free products that I mentioned can do (the paid versions of those products can, as well as many others).

I'm glad you think so.
