reformatting and reinstalling the OS on a existing VM.

HI there,

 Does anyone knows how to reinstall an operating systems in VMware VM? i have a VM running on ESXI and i don't want to remove the VM and recreate it so that i can install a operating systems. Is there any way or step that i can do just reformat and reinstall the OS on an existing VM?

Please clarify what .the end result.

Attach an ISO as the cd/DVD to the VM,.
Reboot the VM and boot from the cd/DVD
And proceed from there.

Depending on your reason, I'd recommend you create/setup a new VM to avoid loosing data.

Where is the VM running, under what circumstance?

point being you have to have a "console" view to boot the system from the CD/DVD

at times, "on the console" "inserting" the cd/dvd might provide for an option to launch it and have it setup as an install... though have not looked at it recently.

Point being you have to boot the system from the CD/DVD while connected to the "console" since the cd/dvd does not load service (ssh, etc.) by default.
 
whether VMware or Hyper-v, you need to access the VM from the hypervisor, Hyper-V in your case and open a window onto the VM from there.
