Windows drive indexing searches and indexes everything including outlook. if you disable windows drive indexing, outlook indexing will also be disabled. you can enable windows drive indexing and remove outlook from being indexed.

Why remove outlook indexing

Why both can be enabled

both can be enabled. I would never remove outlook indexing. people sometimes disable indexing to improve performance, so if you have slow drives and slow CPU disabling indexing can help with performance.

No, windows indexing must be enabled for outlook indexing to work. you can have windows indexing enable while outlook indexing disabled, but not the other way around.

what are you trying to do?

ok, so windows indexing needs to be enabled and have outlook indexed also.

so if outlook indexing is disabled and windows indexing is enabled, will it help in my outlook search items as windows indexing will do that as well as you outlined above

if you disable able outlook indexing you are telling windows not to index outlook items. don't think of outlook indexing as exclusive from windows indexing. you can choose if you want windows to index outlook items (outlook indexing enabled), or you can choose if you don't want windows to index outlook items (outlook indexing disabled). basically if you want to index outlook items you need to leave both enabled.
