Windows 10 software mirroring

Hi I wanted to use software mirroring to mirror a Windows 10 drive, system actually.  I'm going to use like a 250 ssd, don't think that matters.

I know the older version of windows didn't let you software mirror unless you had Ultimate, or maybee Pro.

Question, Windows 10, what version comes with the mirroring capability.

You should be able to do so in Windows 10 (all versions including Home).

Here's a good write up on how to use Windows 10 Storage Spaces:

just what I wanted, quote below from the link

This feature was added in Windows 8, and was improved in Windows 10. It’s available on all editions of Windows 8 and 10, including Home editions.

Thanks again WakeUp.  In fact I'm trying to do that right now.

Sounds good!  Glad to be of service.  Normally I am not a fan of software raids.  But mirroring and SSD should be ok.
Just remember it is not good to trust just RAID 1 for backups.  If you add a 3rd drive in rotation to the 2 drives you have now, you will potentially have a proper backup.  Remember if you have RAID 1 and your windows or something gets corrupt, it corrupts both drives.  If you get infected, you'll infect both drives.  Mirroring is good for drive failure only (for the most part).

If you intend to use it for backups, then again throw in that 3rd drive in rotation and rebuild as often as you need to maintain your backup and you can take that 3rd drive offsite as well for an offsite backup in case of theft or fire or acts of God.

Thanks Wakeup.  This is going to be an application server connected to the domain, it just is going to service rdp connections, all the data is on the file server and backed up there.

I was wondering about raid 5, but I didn't think you could do software raid easly as you would have to load windows first, then create the array.

You can't use Storage Spaces to mirror the boot disk, you will have to use dynamic disks or hardware RAID.

I don't know what Storage Spaces is?  I have successfully mirrorted boot partitions in Disk Management on servers fom NT to 2012, I assume Windows 10 would be the same.  Let me know if not.

Odd that you accepted an answer that was about using Storage Spaces then.

I'm pretty sure you cannot use dynamic disks to mirror with Windows 10 home either, there are several threads on Google about people not being able to import dynamically mirrored disks into "home" that were created with "pro".
