How do I make MacOS High Sierra System Preferences changes to 'Sound' permanent?

How do I make MacOS High Sierra System Preferences changes to 'Sound' permanent until changes made again.

I want to change Sound/Output from 'Internal Speakers' to an Apple HomePod named "Office"

I want this change to persist until I make another change to this option - no change on power down / power up or reboot.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

While I have never used one, I did some experiments with my own mac and my headphones.  The sound setting will persist through reboots IF THE HEADPHONES STAY CONNECTED.  Disconnecting them while the system is up and running will cause the Sound Output settings to change immediately.

It sounds like the O/S treats it as a wireless connection, just like any other wireless connection.  By contrast, the system can remember printers.
