No software to reload WIN 10 on new hard drive

My laptop is going and I bought a replacement.  Long time ago I upgraded to Win 10.  I don't have any software to reload the OS with Win 10.  Using Belarc software I know my key code but I think that is the one from Win 7 I originally had on laptop.  What can I do so I can load the new hard drive

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

You can download it from https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10ISO

The replacement drive often cones with a tool to clone the prior.

Windows 10 records the info with ms.
So when installing if prompted for serial, skip....

Your new laptop should have Windows 10 preinstalled.  There should be no need for you to reload Windows.   Further, your license is likely NOT transferrable to a new computer, so you have to use the license that comes with the new computer.

Hi Tcands,

You could try cloning the old hard disk to the new one using any cloning software the you are comfortable with.

It might be a bit hit and miss, but your chances are fair.

The new hard disk will need to be at least as big as the old one.

If you're just replacing the hard drive, then you can download Windows 10 from Microsoft.  Your key/activation should be recorded by Microsoft and it should not be necessary to enter the key to activate (digital license) - see:

here you can download it if you want a new install  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows10
if youwant to image the old drive, use an imaging tool like paragon or AOMEI

Just to note that, if you don't clone the drive, then you will need to reinstall all the software applications, and reconfigure all of your setup / personal preferences.

Some people might regard a fresh start as a good thing of course!

Is your laptop dying, or just the hard drive? If a new laptop, the key is legally non-transferable.  The key follows the machine, not the user.

If just a HD replacement, then the key should work with a Win 10 download from MSFT. If you have a valid key for the machine, MSFT can help as well by contacting customer service.

But as others have said. If you can clone the drive, that is the best solution to keep everything running as is.

Note however that if the new drive and the old drive are different sizes, even with a clone,, some software may “detect” it has been cloned (it’s moved on the HD, and there is a copy protection scheme that notes the location of the app when installed)  and re-request a serial or key as well. (Hybrid drives have been causing this problem to some people as well because the drive moves software after being  installed and keyed..)
