How do users see the GAL in OWA?

Sorry, this is such a NOOB question, but I'm asking it : (

Setting up a new user in SBS 2011 Standard.  Exchange is running on the server.

When the user goes to OWA, there's no contacts listed.   Shoulnd't that be populated with the GAL (the iist of users on the domain).

Someone new starts at the company and doesn't know how people's email addresses.

And is there a way to hide some people from the published GAL list?

Does the GAL show up the next day for new users?

If so it would seem that the Offline GAL is what is being pulled which is only created once a day early in the morning 4ish AM.

You could try running this in the Exchange Management Console

Get-OfflineAddressBook | Update-OfflineAddressBook

This will update the Offline GAL for all clients.

Thanks.  I was looking thinkers Nguyen they could see the gal like they can see contacts - in a list before writing.

I could see new people asking where everyone in the company is listed if they want to contact them.
Kyle - you agree w Michael about where the gal will show up... once it is in the system for that user
the contacts in OWA show your own contacts, since they are new they dont have any added yet.  As Michael said above: Open a new email and it the To button, another box should open and should show the Global address book selected with all the entries.

If you change the dropdown to contacts instead of global address list it will show nothing again as its your personal contacts (the same as the OWA contacts page)
