I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

The SharePoint group has an owner, and - by default - it is the person who created the group. So first - check the group owner. However, the owner of the group can be changed (during creation and later), so this information may not be 100% reliable. If you suspect the owner is changed - the only method to find the group creator is to check SharePoint logs.
These steps are available to group members or SharePoint manager (depends on permission level). If you do not have access to group or to the server (for log checking) - you cannot check this information.
