Firefox screen only shows half on startup

Win7Pro/64. Firefox latest version. Friend was copying some data from my machine and using Firefox. Next day, the Firefox screen was in the middle of my dual monitor setup, 1/3 on one side of bezels, rest on the other. I've read about this problem on single monitors where only a third or half of the FF screen comes up. I tired all the suggestions - deleting the two files always mentioned, looking for something in the FF profile that might affect this. I can grab and move the screen, but the position will not stick after FF shutdown and restart - only half the window shows, or in my case, window split between two monitors. Again, I've tried all the Mozilla forum suggestions save a reset/refresh. This does not happen with any other program.

Have you tried starting in safe mode?
In FF, click the menu button (3 bars, top right) > Help > Restart with Add-ons disabled.

If that fails, I would suggest uninstalling and removing all user data, then reinstalling.
Details for doing this are found here:

Yes, in safe mode the FF window appears in the middle of monitor one. I have only one extension - Adobe Acrobat. I restarted in regular mode, disabled that single extension, and the problem was still there on startup. So it must be something else that safe mode does that fixes the screen position.

What has happened is you saved the window position that way.  You can drag either the right or left edge to fit onto one monitor.  or hit the square on the top right to maximize the window and it will go to monitor 2. if you then close firefox it will save the window position.  This behavior is not Firefox specific
Yes, I can do that, and have. But until last week, I was able to save the FF window in any size and at any position I wanted. Now the "save" position is as you have diagrammed above. Unless it is made to maximize, it will not keep the size or position.

Didn't work. And here's an anomaly: I open one session of FF and it's the usual split across the screens. But if I leave that open and start a second session of FF, the second session goes exactly where I want. But when I close the first session (the split version) both instances of FF close. This is a stubborn problem. Where does FF store it's window position?
Issue resolved after trying some of the above. Sorry I can't be more specific. In future will report back immediately before I'm off trying to fix something else. Thanks.
