Outlook 2016 rule works fine manually but not automatically

Hi

I have about 40 rules in Outlook 2016/Office 365 to sort the various emails I receive from different processes.

I have issues with 1 of the rule. This rule just doesn't run automatically when a message hits my inbox but runs perfectly if I use "Run Rules Now...".

As you can see here, the rule is really simple.

What I have tried so far:
  • Delete and recreate the rule (many times
  • The rule is the first in the list
  • simplify the rule
  • Recreate the folder where the message has to be moved
  • Create the rule directly from Office 365 (instead of Outlook 2016)

It's possible you hit the rule quota limit, as far as the overall size of your outlook rules. I would try to delete 1 or 2 of the rules that you can live without for a day or so and then see if that rule will run automatically. If it does then you may have hit the size quota, and need to rethink your rules. Exchange has a limit on rules applied to mailboxes. O365 has limit also I'm sure.

Thanks for the info.

I have already deleted 2 rules yesterday while recreating the rule.

What is this limit? Any documentation on that limit?
I just deleted 1 more rule. I now have 36 rules.
I clearly haven't reach the 64kb limit. The link says "When you reach the 64-KB limit, you'll be warned that you can't create any more rules or that you can't update a rule." and I have never seen that warning.
oh ok good enough. since rules are processed sequentially the only other thing I can think is that another rule may be interfering with this one. maybe move the rule up in the order and see if it works.
nice try but as said in my original question, this rule is the first one in the list
Oh sorry, I must have missed that.
Have you tested by removing both sides of the "AND" clause to make sure they are accurate, meaning
1. Remove the "Backup Succeeded" and see if all mail coming from that email address gets moved?
- then -
2. Remove the from email address and see if all emails with "Backup Succeeded" are being moved?

No answers yet, but this may shed some light on which clause in the AND (or both) are failing ...

Also, just for clarification, I am assuming this is your Inbox (and not a Shared Mailbox showing in your Outlook), correct?

I have also seen references to various issues but this post ( https://www.msoutlook.info/question/133 ) consolidates all of them in an easy-to-read format.
It is not a shared mailbox.

I found this morning that this email is sent to a distribution list (for which I am one of the member). I have already changed the rule to "Sent to DLName".

the thing that is strange to me, is that the original rule works when run manually.

I will only be able to see if it is working tomorrow morning!
If that is the issue ... the only other way I can think of is to remove the "from" clause and use one or two other additions to the "AND" clause which help identify these emails uniquely by looking closer at the subject or content.

Really odd ...
