iaStorB.sys reinstalls automatically; how to remove it? (follow-up to earlier question)

This is a follow-up to two earlier questions.

After uninstalling the iaStorB.sys storage controller driver per the previous question linked below I found that Windows 10 reinstalled it. I still think I need to NOT have iaStorB.sys running since it seems to cause BSODs.

In Device Manager I see that after rebooting, Windows reinstalled Intel C600+/C220+ series chipset sSATA AHCI Controller, which is iaStorB.sys

The only drives in the computer are the two SK Hynix SSD drives on the PCIe x16 card and a CD/DVD drive. There is an external 4TB WD drive installed in a StarTech USB3 dock connected to a USB 3 port.

Any idea why this happened and what I should try doing?

Perhaps try disabling the device in Device Manager?

If the SATA driver is faulting BSODs and there is nothing connected to it, then I would have to suspect a hardware malfunction of some kind.

You say there's a CD/DVD drive.  That is probably connected to the SATA controller.  Try disconnecting the CD/DVD drive.

If that fails to solve the problem, then it's probably a motherboard fault.  Regrettably, I can only think of two ways to confirm that:  

a) Reload Windows from scratch.  If the problem does not go away, it's hardware.

b) Replace the motherboard.  If the problem goes away, it's hardware.
you can also test by running from a live cd - windows or Linux, here the knoppix one :

Bearing in mind from my previous questions that these problems started about two weeks after I had updated the Intel Rapid Storage Technology enterprise software, for the moment I obtained the previous version of that software and drivers from the Dell website and rolled back the driver to see if that eliminates the BSODs.

Could you share feedback on Dr. Klahn's advice to disconnect the optical drives from your sata connector? Or is nothing connected to onboard sata at all?

Sure. I am 99% certain the internal DVD+/-RW drive is a SATA drive, so it likely explains why Windows reinstalled the Intel iaStorB SATA driver.

I realized the computer is still covered by Dell Pro tech support so I spoke with a technician. I also have seen some articles on various support forums that the latest Intel Rapid Storage Technology enterprise software and drivers may have problems working with Windows 10. So the technician and I decided that the first thing we would try is rolling back these drivers. To do that we had to uninstall the RSTe software, uninstall the driver, and install the older version of the RSTe software available through the Dell tech support download page for this specific computer.

The crashes have been occurring once every 1 to 4 days, so it is difficult to troubleshoot. So now I'm in a waiting and observing stage to see if the crashes reoccur while running with the older iaStorB.sys SATA driver.

Potential next steps if the crashes reoccur while running the older driver:

My next step likely will be to try Dr. Klahn's suggestion of disconnecting the internal DVD drive and run the system that way for several days to see if the crashes stop. If they do stop I will probably get an external USB3 DVD drive and see if that is a long-term solution.

Beyond that, if the crashes still occur despite having rolled back the driver and disconnected the internal drive I may have to consider the larger steps of a Windows reinstall or a motherboard replacement. Since the crashes occur so infrequently I'm not sure if it would be practical to try running off a separate bootable disc. Since the system still has Dell tech support I would probably see if I can convince Dell to replace the motherboard.

An interim update. No crashes for a couple days now, running with the older version of the Intel iaStorB.sys driver and the internal DVD drive connected. Since the crashes occurred only every 1 to 4 days I want to give the system some more time before declaring success.

It has been about one week now since I rolled back the iaStorB.sys driver for the SATA devices as guided by Dell pro support. The system continues to run smoothly with no crashes.

It seems that was the needed solution. As I mentioned in a previous post, your suggestions would have been my next steps if the driver roll-back did not work.
