Remove one disk from one VMware vm and add it to another vm

We have a server that has 2 disk in it now and the VMware vm is having issues. So we want to remove one of the disk from this vm and put that disk into another new vm by itself.

The steps below are my plan to fix this issue.

1.  Remove the disk from the old server and attach to the new server
  2.  Do a datastore migration so that the vmdk is renamed to match the server and moves into the proper server name folder on the datastore

I think the steps I listed here will work but just want to confirm with the experts...

Yes, that will work as above, but if a Tasks is in Progress on the broken VM, you will not be able to remove the disk.

All virtual disks are hot plug!

Ok cool I will check that to make sure there is nothing running as far as any task go.
Thanks
