Network Connection priority
We have some Dell rugged tablets with on board verizon cellular data. We want the tablets to prefer wi-fi over cellular data and, according to Microsoft, this happens as a default behavior. In our testing this is not the case. I know how to use netsh to configure priority for wlan or mba... but I am not seeing a way to configure wi-fi over mba. Do one of you have a solution to forcing a network preference for wi-fi over cellular?
Thanks!!
Thanks!!
If I am not mistaken, you can set this in the GUI using data sense (win 10 1809) or "data usage" on prior versions. Just enter those terms into your start menu and see what comes up. Cannot test it here right now as this is a machine that has only LAN, but I am sure I have used it on other machines and it should even pick WLAN over cellular automatically.
You should check with Dell Support. All my devices and all client devices will pick Wi-Fi over cellular. Even my computer here where I have a USB Internet key, I must disable Wi-Fi first before the USB stick will take over.

McKnife - we will try this today. John - They were less than helpful and essentially told us that we were imagining the behavior even with the testing results at hand.
Perhaps look at the Wi-Fi Network Connection properties, Advanced, and set the Wi-Fi Metric to a lower number (more preferred). I don't like doing that but in your case it may help.

We are working with Dell support - so far with no luck. Thanks for the input!! Unfortunately, this one is simply not going to be an easy fix!
Share the solution if you find it, please.
I asked you to contact Dell Support and you did. And they cannot fix it.
So this question should be deleted because it does not have any value here.

What's that good for, Melissa?

We are still working with Dell. They can confirm the problem and reproduce it but have yet to come up with a solution. I will share it when/if they do. Thanks again for the suggestions!
Don't select solutions unless the question is solved. Now you need to reopen it. There is a "request attention" button that will let you do that.
