Canon MF236n doesn't work with AirPrint

Canon MF236n fails to work reliably from iPad Mini using Apple Airprint.  Canon suggested removing Canon Biz printing app and using only AirPrint.  This didn't work at all.  If you go into the Canon app, eventually it will find the printer online and AirPrint would work.  now that has stopped working.  The printer is only 2 months old.  it replaced an identical printer that failed.  That printer never had an issue with this iPad Mini.  The computers do not have any issue printing over the network to this printer.  AirPrint is enabled by default and verified on current printer settings.

Airprint is not reliable on some printers, for reasons that aren't clear.  For these units (and for other reasons, see the app description at the link below) I suggest "Print n Share", available on the apple "apps store."  It allows printing to nearly any network printer, not just WiFi or Airprint units.

So far so good with that app.
