Server Shares Not Working

We have a server that will not let us browse to any shares including but not limited to C$. We haven't made any changes but this started a couple weeks ago. The server is Windows Server 2012R2.

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Are you getting prompts for logins or what? Have you tried connecting to the IP of the server instead of the name? Could be a DNS issue.

ICCNetworkAdminAuthor Commented:
We don't get any prompts. I can't use the share by IP or Name. This is the only server experiencing the issue. I've also removed and readded to the domain and that didn't fix the issue.

Can you ping the server? If the firewall is turned on, try turning it off then connecting to it.

Can that server see out to other devices?

ICCNetworkAdminAuthor Commented:
Yes, the server can see out to other devices. Turning the windows firewall off for the domain network (on the server) did not help. Other servers in that network can ping the server but cannot get to the shares either.

Have you rebooted the server lately ???

ICCNetworkAdminAuthor Commented:
Yes, it was rebooted when it was removed and readded to the domain.

Are you logged in as an Administrator when trying to access the shares?
0
ICCNetworkAdminAuthor Commented:
Yes and no. One of the shares is open to all domain users.

Is the server service running?
Are there any entries in the event logs?
Did you (or someone else) install any third party antivirus/anti-malware utilities that might otherwise have their own firewall components blocking things?
Can the server browse itself?

ICCNetworkAdminAuthor Commented:
What server service? Sophos is running on the server but I've disabled that in order to troubleshoot this issue and that didn't help either. The server is not able to browse itself using the server name and C$ but if I leave C$ off it can see the shares on the server. I am still unable to see the shares from another machine.

" it was removed and readded to the domain"

Then you should have re-created those shares as well.

I ended up contacting Microsoft to fix the issue. Not sure what they did but the issue is no longer presenting itself.
