FM - Find Mode Doesn't Reflect Tab Order

In one of my layouts, I have the property code set #1 in the tab order, but unlike other layouts, when I do a find, it selects another field.  Any ideas?  And, yes, the Find Mode is selected in the Inspector.  In Browse mode, it is in Table View if that makes a difference.

Any script triggers associated with that field or the layout (OnRecordLoad perhaps) that might be operating? Is going into Find scripted such that it might go to a different field? Where in the tab order is the field that it does go to?

If you create a duplicate of the layout does it do the same? If you clear and reset the tab order on the duplicate test layout does it make any difference?

It had a script trigger in Browse mode, but took that off with no effect.  Has a trigger that uses a sort and Zoom on layout enter, but took that off to no effect.  Duplicated layout with no effect.  Had already reset tab order.  However, found very similar layout I had duplicated a while back and it works.  Main difference is it doesn't have the first field, which is a check box field and is the field that the Find Mode is defaulting too currently even though it is empty in the Tab Order.  See attached.

Hmmm, try including the checkbox field in the tab order (anything other than #1) and see if it goes to the same field or a different one.

If you temporarily remove the checkbox field, what happens? Then if you add it back?

Had to delete that field and another field before it would work.  Have to find out what is unique about the fields because only one of them is a checkbox field.

Seems like a flaw in Filemaker.  I removed my VacDupeCheck (calculation) field and NewTnt Checkbox field and the cursor went to Prop field after doing Find.  However, as soon as I moved them to the left of the PropCode field, the cursor went to one of them before Prop even though they have no number in Tab Order.  Strange.

Did the issue return when you put the fields back?

Author

Commented:
Yes, like I described above.

And did giving them a number in the Tab Order (somewhere after #1) help?

Author

Commented:
No, had no effect, but good try.

Hmmm, try it with script debugger on. That will confirm whether any script trigger is running.

Never obtained a solution.  Seems like a flaw in Filemaker.   Despite duplicating the layout and repeatedly testing it, could not get the Tab order or Tab #1 to be the default field when going to Find mode.

I’ve never observed any behavior like this without there being logical reason for it, but I would have to see how the layout

Same here, though I tried several options of deleting fields, etc., as well as checking script triggers.  On the logical side, wouldn't jump to that conclusion as why, for example, with the FM16 upgrade, can you not press the keystroke for the first letter of a field and pull it up?  In some dialog boxes it works and some it doesn't (of course, this is the logic of the designers and not FM itself).
