Exchange 2010 Public Folder item restore using Backup Exec 2010

By any chance does anyone know how to restore an Exchange 2010 Public Folder item restore using Backup Exec 2010?
The original question was
I'd like to restore some emails from a Public Folder backup using Backup Exec.
I have the restore ready to go, but not sure on the best way to go about it.
I cannot restore to a recovery database (You cannot restore Public Folders to a RDB).
I cannot restore to a PST (Needs 2012 or above?).
I'm not sure how to go about restoring to the Public Folder Database. This involves taking it offline (and the Mailbox Database?). Does this mean that staff need to come out of
Outlook when I restore it? What happens when you dismount a database? Is it best done out of hours?
Any advice gratefully received!
Thank you,
Steph

Also make sure that you dismount the current PF database and take a flat file copy if in case anything does wrong you can restore the flat file PF edb.
