Deadline to take CompTIA Security+ SY0-401 exam?

Can anyone tell me the deadline to take the CompTIA Security+ SY0-401 exam?

I know the 501 materials are out but on their website it seems to imply that you can still do the 401. I would have to create an account on there and email their support to get specifics, which is why I figured I'd ask here to see if anyone knows. When I tried Googling the answer I get everywhere from Mid-2017 to July 31, 2018 and so on.

Here's the kicker - I have been studying for the 401 since earlier this year. Been taking my time since my job basically gives me no incentive to do it. Mainly, it's resume padding, but I want to know for sure if I can still do the 401 or if I need to ditch this and switch over to the 501 materials.

According to their website:  https://certification.comptia.org/it-career-news/post/view/2017/11/15/the-new-comptia-security-your-questions-answered

"When does the old exam expire?

The English version of the CompTIA Security+ SY0-401 exam will retire on July 31, 2018, and will at that point be completely replaced by SY0-501. "

Can still do 401 as long as before SY0-401 exam retirement date
- English: July 31, 2018;
- Japanese, Portuguese and Simplified Chinese: December 15, 2018

Actually may be worth more to go for SY0-501 exam code which is already available since Oct 4, 2017. Probably retirement is 3 year later. The 501 is newer.

The updated Security+ covers the baseline skills needed to perform core security functions, including topics like risk management, risk mitigation, configuring resilient networks and using security frameworks. It goes more in depth than SY0-401 and includes four new objectives.

Subsequently if you are maintaining security + you can plan taking newer one. But since 401 is fresh in mind, you may want to consider 501 instead so as to do in one take and stay more current.

Date of retirement was already posted, so no point in repeating it.

Switch to 501 materials.

Thanks, y'all. I don't know how I missed that article on CompTIA's site. They should put that somewhere more visible.

I'll go ahead and finish reading through my 401 book, then get a 501 and not take so long next time!
