Joining a windows 2016 standard server to a windows 208r2 active directory
I want to join a windows 2016 standard server to a 2008R2 active directory. All functional levels are at Windows 2008R2.
Are there known issues joining a 2016 standard server to AD 2008R2?
Are there any known operational issues?
Are there GPO compatibility issues?
I am in the processes of purchasing windows 2016 standard licenses. How long will a windows 2016 run without activation?
Thanks

Hi,
Are you planning to run the 2016 as domain controller in the existing domain? if so, you need to prepare the domain (adprep /domainprep, adpre /schemaprep, adprep /forestprep) schema preparation, forest preparation.

This server will not be a domain controller.
The server we are joining will be hosting a web site.
Upgrading the AD to 2016 is another project.

No issues, you can join it directly.

It will run 180 days without activation.
