Remote Apps in Windows Server 2012

What is the best configuration to allow external access to remote apps? Do you have to set it up with Remote Desktop enabled?

If I understand you correctly, yes. We access our various Server 2012 machines with Windows Remote Desktop Connection. It works very well.

That's how I was trying to set it up but I keep getting a lot of traffic trying to access my server. I can't find any info that explains the proper way to set it up. I'm not educated on servers so my knowledge is minimal. Looking for a step by step process to accomplish this procedure covering all things associated with this process
What are you trying to run on the Server and how are you trying to access?  Remote access to the server normally requires a VPN of some sort. That is how we do it.

You can publish RemoteApp with Web Application Proxy
I'm using Remote Desktop Services with RD Web Access, a gateway server and a RD Session Host with QuickSessionCollection of my published apps
