SQL Server 2012 re-installation fails

We restored a server from a system state backup yesterday. However, it seems that the applications didn't come with it. They do appear in Programs in Control Panel which makes this situation funnier. We are now running into a major issue trying to re-install SQL Server 2012 Enteprise. If I try to install a new instance, I get "SQL Server Setup has encountered the following error: There was a failure to calculate the default value of setting INSTANCEID. Error code 0x85640001."

If I try to install the default instance, you get the same error but replace INSTANCEID with SKU.

The installation media also recognizes the previous installation which is weird because it doesn't exist anymore. We already extracted the installation .iso via WinRAR and tried that and that didn't help.

In my opinion that was not a successful system restore and I would not rely on it and that is just my opinion based on your quote posted above. I think at least some storage attached to the original "system" was not backed-up and restored at the same time therefore
