Connect To Ubuntu Instance Using RDP or something similar. EC2

I just started using AWS EC2. I have an ubuntu box that is running, but I can't connect to it like I would a windows box with RDP.
I want to connect to this instance using RDP or something similar. I cannot use the Java browser extension that is recommended.

Hi,
You can connect your AWS EC2 Ubuntu instance using RDP,
Please follow the below-mentioned steps to achieve it.

1. Install Xrdp in ubuntu instance,
2. Configure Xrdp
3. Restart the service and connect using RDP connection
Check this below link for installation document.

Have you tried TeamViewer?
There is a VNC server for Ubuntu as well. I happen to like it better than RDP especially for multiple screens, but screen sharing seems to be a religion with people. Everyone worships their favorite!

See here about installing: https://www.digitalocean.com/community/tutorials/how-to-install-and-configure-vnc-on-ubuntu-18-04
Maybe ssh ?
He did say “like RDP” so I’m assuming he wants a screen share system. Otherwise I agree, ssh would work fine to login remotely
The normal connection method for an AWS instance is ssh, as sshd runs inside every instance by default.

To run RDP, follow steps for installing Xrdp someone posted above.

Keep in mind, when you install a system like Xrdp you'll be installing a massive amount of dependencies which bootstrap an entire windowing system.

If you're trying to keep your instances light weight (no mass dependencies installed) use ssh.
David, any idea the overhead for Xrdp?  One of my hot button with AWS is that you pay for every cycle it seems. Just wondering (since I never ran it on AWS) if Xrdp is running tasks all the time?

Canis, also be aware that AWS charges for I/O, and sending full screens can be a lot of data if they are changing all the time. Might get expensive over time if you are doing it all the time.
