how can I reset a Zeki Quad Core tablet (Model Number: TBQG884B)?

Hello and Good Evening Everyone,

I wish to help a friend reset his Zeki Quad Core tablet (Model Number: TBQG884B).  I did notice a Reset which corresponds to a tiny hole.  I assume I will need something very tiny to insert into that hole to commence the resetting procedures.  This is speculation on my part though because I am not entirely sure what to expect.  I did mention to my friend that all data on the tablet will likely be lost because a reset returns the device back to its original default manufacture settings or when he first bought it.  He said that everything on the tablet is backed up to his laptop.  So, he seems to be fine with that part of it.

Any step by step guidelines for resetting my friend's Zeki Quad Core tablet (Model Number: TBQG884B) will be greatly appreciated.   I do have a serial number on the back of this tablet and will be furnished if needed.

          Thank you

          George

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Look at the hole with a magnifying glass and carefully insert a thin end of a paper clip. Assuming it goes in, you should be able to press it to do a full restart. Rarely would such an action delete all data, but you have warned the user, so try resetting and see if that improves its state.

Hi John,

Thank you for your follow up advice.   If there are any prompted questions, will they be self-explanatory with respect to answering them?

Since it is a user device, if it starts up normally, yes, the questions will be self-explanatory.

Thank you, John, for taking the time to address my question.  Under normal circumstances, I believe your suggestion would work.  However, there are certain unknown issues which are preventing the reset from functioning within normal expectations as pointed out within another open post which I am getting ready to close.

My friend will be trying out various alternative strategies this weekend.  If I should hear of any new developments, I will post back right away.

Thanks again,

George

Is the Reset a button? I looked at the manual and it lists Hard Reset Switch as a button. Since the tablet is running Jelly Bean the way to get to the boot menu might not be exactly as John described. It seems like this tablet you need to hold the Volume -, not Volume +.

I found the following instructions on the Zeki support page:

Press and hold the Volume – button and tap the Reset button
(The reset button is located between the HDMI and USB ports)
Continue holding the Volume – button until the boot screen appears
Release the Volume – button
Use the volume controls to navigate to "Wipe data/Factory reset"
Press the power button to select
Navigate to "Delete all user date"
Press the power button to select
Your table will take several minutes to reboot to a factory default setting.

Hope you are able to fix the tablet!

Hello and Good Evening Martin :-)

The reset is not actually a button, but, a hole.  It can be accessed by using the end of a tiny paper clip.   I did give the tablet back to my friend this morning along with a print out of strategies to try out.   I will also forward your steps to him as well.   I am hopeful and confident that we will eventually see some favorable results.

Thank you, Martin, for your follow up interest in this troubleshooting endeavor.   I will provide a further update if any new developments should come my way.
