Zero AI Policy
We believe in human intelligence. Our moderation policy strictly prohibits the use of LLM content in our Q&A threads.
These "lists", which are actually databases, are consulted by doing DNS lookups. Here's an example:
================== FIRST TEST ===================
Lookup 2.0.0.127.sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org
Expected result success, 127.0.0.2
Official name = <2.0.0.127.sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org>
Address length in bytes = 4
Resolved to 127.0.0.2
Validation successful
================== SECOND TEST ===================
Lookup 1.0.0.127.sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org
Expected result failure
Lookup failed, h_errno = 1 <Unknown host>
Validation successful
================ ALL TESTS PASS =================
If Spamhaus thinks there's a problem with an IP address, you do a DNS lookup for that address with the octets reversed, followed by the database name (in the above, the "sbl-xbl" database), followed by "spamhaus.org". If there is a response, Spamhaus thinks there's an issue and the low octet of the response indicates the problem.
Most other spam databases work the same way.
Postfix can check these databases automatically. There are plugins for Apache (mod_spamhaus, mod_torcheck, mod_honeypot) to do IP validation for web server requests.
Side note: While the Barracuda RBL is free, all other Barracuda services are now by paid subscription. Check the cost against the benefits before signing anything.

if you email server has this feature to add RBL's
How then can we download a copy of the free "Barracuda Reputation Block List (BRBL)" ?
An outdated list is fine

Security is the protection of information systems from theft or damage to the hardware, the software, and the information on them, as well as from disruption or misdirection of the services they provide. The main goal of security is protecting assets, and an asset is anything of value and worthy of protection. Information Security is a discipline of protecting information assets from threats through safeguards to achieve the objectives of confidentiality, integrity, and availability or CIA for short. On the other hand, disclosure, alteration, and disruption (DAD) compromise the security objectives.
