Problem- changed logon name in AD but cannot sign on Windows Computer with it
We are running Windows 2012 Server Domain Controller and users are running windows 10 pro on their computers.
I have one user who I had to rename which I did through AD but later to find out her logon account name did not change.
I went to AD again, right clicked the user and changed their logon name but not their pre windows 2000 name( just added an extra "e" to their name).
I changed it and waited for replication over night but I still cannot log their Windows 10 machine with the new logon name. but can continue to use the old logon name.
Any ideas?
Thanks

you must need to change Pre windows 2000 name which is nothing but SamAccountName attribute, SamAccountName is used to logon on workstations, what you have changed is prefix of UPN, that will not help
U may change SamAccountName attribute directly from attribute editor of user properties and then wait for few minutes for replication or force replication and then check

We have a backup domain controller so a total of 2.

Thanks
the display name is just something that looks pretty, the samaccountname is the important item.

Can you please be specific and maybe a screen shot of what I have to change?
Its also my understanding that the profile on their computer will be the same when they sign in with the new domain\username?
Thanks

There is no way the client is aware of this. Windows create a profile and an internal SID in the registry for the user. Even if you delete the user on AD and create a new user with the same name, for both the SERVER and CLIENT this is a whole new user.
That said, you must log in on the Client with an Administrator account, delete the user's profile and create it again. If you don't have folder redirection in place I will suggest you to copy all you need from that profile to another folder, delete the profile, create the new profile, sign in again with the Administrator and copy all from the folder created earlier to the new user folder.
Hope that helps!!
