It not office 365 which is slow, check your network bandwidth.

Apart from Office for Mac 2011 on which you are facing slowness, try to configure the same user mailbox on an Outlook 2010,2013 or 2016  test machine and check the behavior.
Thanks, Saif — bit I’m not imagining things.

I have both Microsoft Office for Mac 2011, and Microsoft Office 365 running the latest version of Excel — running on the same Mac, with the same internet “connection.”

Office 365 is not supposed to need an Internet connection after the initial download and installation, and is supposed to act like a standalone program — yet it is far slower than Office for Mac 2011.

Office 365 refers to both the server end (exchange/sharepoint/onedrive/teams/s4b) and the desktop software suite. The desktop suite is further broken down into the specific products (outlook/word/excel/powerpoint/access)

From your comment I'm guessing your question is why is office 365 Excel slower than Office 2011 Excel?  Is this your question. Please elaborate.. And slow at what? Loading a file, computation speed, macro execution?
