"New Folder" and "Add Items To Folder" are both greyed in "Source Control Explorer" How can I un-grey them?

Hi,

Installed : Visual Studio 2017 Community

When I go to "Source Control Explorer" I cannot add folders or files - "New Folder" and "Add Items To Folder" are both greyed.

I have The correct plug-in selected and The TFS database is created.

Anyone know what I need to do please?

Did you create a workspace? you can do it in Source Control Explorer when opening the combobox 'Workspaces" in the menu area.

Yes, Thank you Sara.

(I should have said this)

I have been using TFS for many years now, both at work and at home. I have never seen this problem before.
i found the following (at stackoverflow.com/questions/27507069/can-visual-studio-community-install-tfs-team-foundation-server):

Visual Studio Community edition is feature equal to Visual Studio Professional except that in an organization it can only be used for open source projects, academic research or learning. For other commercial scenarios you're only allowed to use the Community edition up to 5 users.

Team Foundation Server is a separate product. If you have an MSDN subscription (which you won't have if you're using VS Community), you get licenses to install TFS.

However, instead of installing TFS you can also look at Visual Studio Team Services, a hosted version of TFS which is free up to five users.

So, if you're with less than 5 users, you can use Community and Visual Studio Team Services completely free.

if i understand theat correctly  you can use an already installed TFS from vs 2017 community, but you can't configure it from vs community.

perhaps the Visual Studio Team Services would be an alternative.

Is this question posted in the right place (I am new to this site)

nobody seems to want to comment apart from One person (thank you)

How do I know If I am ever going to get any response?
Probably you should send a request to the Moderators that they should reenter the question such that it gets more attention by Experts. You may add the tag 'TFS'  and show some details by screen shots how you configured the TFS and the current Workspace. Greyed menu items often mean that some basic settings is missing or wrong. Or that your credentials are not sufficient. Generally, start Visual Studio 'as administrator' if you do some initial work.

if you don't get good answers here for pure Visual Studio questions you might have more success in pure MS Forums.
