How to group on field with one group containing more then one field being grouped by

Crystal Reports 2016

I am using the standard grouping by field in my report.  However I would like to actually combined several fields to fall under one specific group.  How would I go about doing that.

Field to group by.  A, B, C, D, E, F

Example:
                       Group: A
                           Detail A
                       Group B
                            Detail B
                       Group C
                            Detail C
                       Group (Contains D, E & F)
                            Detail D,E,f

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Create a formula that returns the desired new Group Name for each field value.
Then, group on that formula.

A good approach is to use a Select Case statement instead of multiple ELSE IF
Select {MyField}
Case "A": "A"
Case "B": "B"
Case "C": "C"
Case "D", "E", "F" :  "D, E, and F"
Default: {MyField};

I wrote a formula based on your example and applied it to the Change Group Options/Use a Formula as Group Sort Order.  I get an error of when saving the formula.

Ido meant to create a formula in the formula editor then group on the formula.
