How to share data between VFP with SQL backend database and SalesForce

I have a client asking about their VFP app with a SQL backend database being able to import/export data from SalesForce (www.salesforce.com).  I am wondering if anyone has suggestions on how to best go about making these tasks work, using 3rd party tools or otherwise?

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

Hi woodwyn,

SalesForce offers Import Wizard which is able to read data from SQL Server. Of course, you have to know data structures on the SQL backend and this is also valid for other data import tools. 6 available tools are listed e.g. here: https://www.bigbangerp.com/blog/6-ways-import-data-salesforce/

Another option is to write export utility in VFP. This requires to know SalesForce data structures and all the rules so it is much more difficult than to use above tools.

This task will need two experts most probably. One for the original app and the second one for the SalesForce. I would guess if you find single expert in both areas then you may expect double rate.

Good answer by Pavel and in the same answer I gave about Quickbook applies here, too.

We're not just talking about technical connectors, but the individual data and data structures of applications, even about the same topic and type of data like finance or customer relations that might be what shows on the UI level.

Bye, Olaf.
