External WSB to internal SATA for faster recovery.

I have an external backup disk usb2.0 with data backup using Windows Server Backup.
I need to recover all the data (6TB), takes a lot of time.
Can someone help me to see if this two options would work:
Brake the case of the external disc, extract the backup disck, insert the disc as a sata disc and recover the information using Windows Server Backup (will the WSB will recognize the disk the same as the external usb).
Brake the case of the external disc, extract the backup disc, place it in a usb3 case and recover the information using Windows Server Backup (will the WSB will recognize the disk the same as the external usb).

Will this work?, or should I stay with the same external usb2.0 case?

Just curious...

you say you need to recover 6TB of backup data.

Where are you going to recover TO?

My guess is that your internal drives don't amount to 6TB.

I didn´t meant break it like literally break it :D
I have a local backup of 6.4TB in an External USB2 disc and a Cloud backup just in case.
I will take about 5 days to recover all the backup using USB2, I need to speed up things, that´s why I temping to use a USB3.0 or worst case, insert the disk as SATA inside the server.
Just need to figure out if someone already try this and did it work.
Sorry. I will recover to the same server...
Had a RAID 5 Virtual disk, and magically, two disks failed the same day.
As efrimpol said above, its just a standard SATA drive.  If you add it to a PC it should appear as another drive(s).
This is tricky but let me see if i understand.

You have a server in a RAID 5 configuration. Attached to it was an external drive that you were backing up to. Your server suffered a failure and you lost 2 of the drives in your server. Is your server still running??? If not, are you then attempting to recover on another server that is functioning?

too many assumptions can lead to incorrect solutions. I don't want you inserting your external drive into a server that is configured as a RAID 5 server. You can lose the data. A normal personal computer shouldn't be an issue.
Sorry,
This is my whole setup.
Windows Server 2008
Virtual disc 1 (OS) -Raid1 (two disks)
Virtual disc 2 (Data) - Raid 5 (Five disks)

I even had a hot spare disk ready in case one of the 5 data disks failed, but this morning two disks failed at the same time.
Just the Virtual disk of the data failed…..

I am trying to see if I connect the external backup disk as a SATA drive (same as the optical drive), and from there do a recovery for the DATA volume.

I looked and my external drive is USB3, connected to a SS port…. the recovery speed is 15MB/s, is this normal?
Marpanet,
What you propose should work but keep in mind the actual disk inside the USB 2.0 case may not support USB 3.0 speed and performance so actual restore speeds may not necessarily be faster. The WSB should not know the difference in the disk being USB 2.0 or 3.0 Just Just Another thought is purchase a USB 3.0 HDD Caddy you just slide the SATA disk in the caddy turn it on and away you go. You will have flexibility in disks, maybe even rotate disks for offsite storage if needed.
Look for something like this "Hard Drive Docking Station SATA III / II / I to USB 3.0 External Enclosure for 2.5 & 3.5 Inch SATA III Hard Drive SSD HDD Single Bay HDD Docking Supports UASP and Hard Drive up to 10TB Capacity"
Hope this helps
most of the backup drives in a box are 5400 rpm drives they may be sata 6GB and will benefit from using USB3.x.  You won't get usb3.x full speed but it will be faster than usb2.0
it depends on the external disk model if you have inside it a useable sata drive, some ext drives come with usb connection integrated to motherboard of the disk
what model do you have?
Indeed my external hard drive was USB3, and after a while, I started to have a recovery speed of 35mb/s, that´s a good speed, I can manage to wait two days until my data is restored.

It´s not worth it to remove the drive from the case having this speed. I think the recovery speed has something to do with the Virtual Disk being initiated.
i don't understand the above. first you posted it was usb 2 - now its usb 3 ?  what is t???
Nobus, sorry for the confusion, at first I thought it was usb2... in one of my comments I said that I realized it was USB3.. (I am working via Remote), that´s why I did noticed at first.
ok. This would be a "safer yet slower" process and 35/mbs is good for now.
ah ok; tx for the update
if you don't need more help - close this Q plse
Thank you,
I did not try any solution because first I was afraid in opening the closure, but then I realized I did have USB3 and the speed started to increase, so no "breaking" case needed.
thumbs up!
you still need to close this Q!
