Entity Framework - would this break?

I wonder if code would work if I do this:

1. I added a column to a database table in our Dev database

2. I updated the EDMX in the code

3. Production/another database enviroment doesn't have the new column.

4. Now, I move the code to Production. EDMX has the extra column. Database doesn't have it. I'm NOT using the extra column in the code yet.

Would the code break? I don't think so because I'm not using the extra column. It's just in the EDMX.

I wear a lot of hats...

"The solutions and answers provided on Experts Exchange have been extremely helpful to me over the last few years. I wear a lot of hats - Developer, Database Administrator, Help Desk, etc., so I know a lot of things but not a lot about one thing. Experts Exchange gives me answers from people who do know a lot about one thing, in a easy to use platform." -Todd S.

1 -> 2 -> 3 (it won't be broken)

3 -> 4 it will break because the database schema is different from the one you have in production, so yeah it will break, even if you're not using the DB yet
