Setting up and Offsite Domain Controller
I have a small business that wants to move entire server to cloud.
I am new to this and wanted to know what are the steps to setup an offsite server?
I may not be using the correct terminology so bear with me.
I have a customer who has 10 windows 7 pro and 5 windows 10 pro machines 3 Network Printers. They use Quickbooks and have their files on the server. This is a single server that does DHCP, DNS, File and Print Services.
I want to setup on Azure a 2012 or 2016 VM where i can make it a DC and setup the shares and move all the customers files and applications on the Azure VM. I want to eliminate their onsite server.
I would setup their firewall as the DHCP Server.
I understand that the internet connection plays a big part but lets assume they have a High Speed Fiber Connection say 100M
Can this be done and what are the cons to doing this.

the main reason I would want to do this is so I dont have to worry about hardware. as for QB i could setup RDS and use it that way. im more concerned on how AD works. how do I join the workstations to the offsite server domain, is login times going to be alot slower, how to GPOs work etc.

i believe you already know the benefits ofdoing this and that’s the reason you have decided to mirgrate, hence I am skipping the pros section.
regarding the cons, the top concerns will be:
1. does the Quickbooks app always need to access the shared folder(s) remotely in the cloud? what kind of share folders are they, just SMB share folders via NETBIOS over TCPIP?
2. how are the printers shared? via the DC or individual PCs? does AD authentication required for printer access?
3. how many AD users currently managed by local DC. will the whole AD be transferred to the cloud?
BTW, not only DHCP, the DNS is also required to be managed or assigned by local firewall.
