How do I create a system image file backup for recovery on Hyper-V Server 2016?

I have a Hyper-V Server 2016 setup (the free one).  I experienced a system failure and have to rebuild.  How do I create a system image backup for disaster recovery that I can use when I boot up to the server setup and choose system recovery image?  All the information I can find expects a full Windows server install with GUI.

Windows disaster recover methods leave a little bit to be desired.  I have always had the best luck using a third party image solution.  There are a few free versions of software that can provide basic DR.  The ones that I have had decent success with on a budget are Veeam and Unitrends.  I don't believe that the free versions of these backup solutions allow for file level/granular restore inside guest OSes but they do a great job for the imaging of the physical server.

Thanks for the replies.  I looked through the article briefly.  I will study it more later.  It would definitely benefit me to keep the wim updated.  As for 3rd party options, are they compatible with hyper-v server standalone?
The freebie Veeam for Windows Server Agent should be okay to install on Server Core.
